 Hello Guys,

Lots of problems ... all started when I "reply" to a known email address and got a malicious BOT. My completely up-to-date Trend id'd it as pak_generic.001. Said info was being accessed remotely and directed me to stay online and scan via their housecall -- Go figure. I started downloading all kinds of Microsoft antivirus tools: malicious software removal tool, windows defender, and live oneCare. Problem with live OneCare ... it wanted me online and I didn't want info stolen from the remote accessing bot.

After running all this stuff ... nothing finally showed, but something was still odd with the mouse. Still looking for something, I went to upgrade my Trend from 2008 to 2009. (Side problem: we have a driver that always popsup to be disabled. Never a problem before, but for some reason now, I was having installation problems.) Long story, trying to make short, right now I have no virus protection on machine. It would not go into safe mode, so I tried to force via "msconfig".  Okay, I know I don't belong there, but this is what I did: under "startup" tab -- disabled all startup services; under "boot.ini"  tab -- "checked all boot paths" and it came up okay, then I clicked the boot option"/safeboot ... minimal". Restarted the computer expecting it to finally go properly into safe mode and got a continuous restart look going.

I put in the Win XP Pro CD to repair and after running its little stuff it finally gave me

S"left"> I'm making a mess of things it seems but the problem is likely minor for an expert. If anyone can help ... PLEASE HELP!!!!

 Thanks much.
