I Initially mistakenly posted this topic in the wrong forum, but having been directed here, will give it a shot.
I realize as XP is out of support, you may be unable to answer this, but you miss 100% of the shots you don't take, so here goes nothing.
I have 2 old XP PCs running some legacy Fox Pro programs. They both seem to have issues communicating with the print server in our network. The print server is 2008 R2. They can ping other servers and PCs, and access network resources, but they seem to think the print server is offline. When I attempt to ping it by name it seems like the PC has no DNS entry for the server, however if I check our DNS server the print server is listed(and it resolves just fine from other PCs). I can ping the server's IP address directly. For now I have set up a direct printing option to the network printer they need, but my upper management wants to know why this is occurring. I have verified that the PCs and the print server are all on the same subnet, and have the same mask. So I'm totally stumped. It's not occurring with any other XP machines that are still around due to legacy programs, it's only the Fox Pro machines. Could it have to do with Fox Pro?
After the reply I got earlier, I would like to add. IPv6 is disabled on the server, and the 2 XP machines don't have it installed. Disabling SNMP didn't resolve this either. The XP boxes can't seem to find the name of the print server, however I have verified that it has correct DNS entries in our DNS servers. Direct IP connection to the print server works, but is less than ideal, as our GPO uses the print server names.
