I just did a clean install of Windows XP SP3 on an IBM ThinkPad T42. All drivers are up to date. After everything was up and running (including Internet), I ran Windows Update. No drivers were updated. When I rebooted, DNS stopped working. I could run nslookup for a site and the IPs would return back to me, and I could type in http://<IP> and the site would load just fine. The DNS servers reported by IP config are correct. I've tried Internet with wireless LAN and Ethernet, neither work. Other PCs on the same network work fine.
I did a "ipconfig /flushdns", and the hosts file is clean. The DNS Client service is starting just fine. Nothing reported in Event Log.
So, if a Windows Update broke it, does anyone know which one?
